Black Friday seems to be a well-established phenomenon this side of the Atlantic
now. It started as a one-day sale by retailers in America for the day after their
Thanksgiving holiday to kick start Christmas shopping. It is no longer confined to
one day as Black Friday sales often run the entire month of November.
Black Friday this year falls on 26th November with its counterpart Cyber Monday
on Monday 29th November. Cyber Monday is traditionally the day when online
sales ahead of Christmas reach their peak.
Black Friday may stand more of a chance of being a big event in stores this year.
In 2020, it was dampened somewhat by lockdown when only non-essential stores
were open and Cyber Monday took centre stage.
